In Defense of Barbie

I played with Barbies for way too long…like embarrassingly too long. I didn’t give up the habit until middle school. I guess I should have known at the time that I was destined to have a job in fashion, since I was so crazy for Barbie.   Barbies get a bad rap, and I get it. Her proportions are crazy, and maybe she has a negative impact on young girl’s body image. I personally think that your relationship with your mother and how she views herself has a greater impact, but that’s all I’m going to say about the controversial aspects of Barbie…all I know is how much little Sarah loved her Barbies.   I had plenty of dolls as...

3 Cocktails to Make at Home for V-Day

I’ve never been a big V-Day person, but I do enjoy having a nice cocktail and cooking a nice dinner at home with my husband on Valentine’s Day. We like to try new cocktails while we listen to records in our living room and talk. It’s a fun before dinner ritual that always makes us feel close and helps us unwind after a long day of work.  It also feels so stylish, like we're somehow transported to a bygone era. One dish that is phenom with a little carb and cheese action is called “Company Eggs.” I guess...

On Saturday, January 21st, I marched down Market Street in San Francisco with about 150,000 other people in the women’s march, an event that took place in 673 other cities around the world. It was pouring rain, but the energy of the event was so emotional and inspiring, that I couldn’t help but feel a sense of hope and positivity, that even though we may have some dark days ahead of us, there are still so many people in the world who believe in equality and love. I couldn’t help but think about my mother while I was marching. She was of the baby boomer generation and passed away when I was 17. She would have been 70 on the...

6 Tricks to Being a More Confident Woman

(Photo: weheartit.com) Alright, ladies, we all know those women who walk into a room and everyone turns to look at her, she has that level of confidence and swag that makes people take notice. People think she’s the boss, and maybe she is, but either way, she is owning herself and her place in the world.   I have always looked up to women like these, and I strive to be like them. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve naturally gotten more confidence, but it is something that I’ve had to exercise on a daily basis and that I am still trying to get to take root in myself. My mother tried so hard to give me good self esteem, and...
